Natcheztoo asked a simple, but important question on the message board.

Okay, I’m lazy. I didn’t go back and look to see if this question had been answered at the beginning of the articles:

Will there be a difference in NL Starting Hand Charts for cash games and tournaments?

If there will be, will it be addressed within the scope of this article.

I only play tournaments, so far, so that is where my focus is concentrated.

He’s referring to the soon-to-be-completed series, Building a No-Limit Hold’em Starting Hand Chart. The short answer to your question is, yes, there’s a big difference between starting hand guidelines in tournaments and cash games, and it’s not really within the scope of the article series.

I’ve never been into tournaments but I feel like MTTs should be easy if you’re doing fairly well at cash-games, yeah?

I am also somewhat interested in what the variance is like between 20, 50 and 100bb starting stacks in a cash-game?

Obviously if you’re the best player you want to play as deep as possible.

I am thinking hypothetically though, how much lower would your winrate drop with constant variables from 100 to 50bb stacks?

Kind of vague question I guess :)

What I was quite surprised about is when I saw Farha, Negreanu & Co. in HIGH STAKES POKER. They play with the worst starting-hands I have ever seen. I would be very, very curious how you analyse the play we see in that show.
