In this hand, Shrike flops a set and plays it in a very typical way. He’s concerned he didn’t get the most out of the hand.

Flopping top set on a relatively dry board. Full ring LHE game online.

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with T  T :spade:
4 folds, MP3 raises, 2 folds, SB calls, Hero calls.

I likely have the best hand preflop but I don’t really want to three-bet as I’ll be OOP the rest of the hand.

Flop: T :club: 3  9 :diamond: (6SB, 3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, MP3 raises, SB 3-bets, Hero caps, MP3 calls, SB folds.

Capping cost me a customer. Should I have smooth called the 3-bet and raised any turn?

Turn: 5 :diamond: (8.5BB, 2 players)
Hero bets, MP3 calls.

River: 8  (10.5BB, 2 players)
Hero bets, MP3 calls.

Results:
Final pot: 12.5BB
Hero showed T  T :spade:
MP3 mucks 9 :club: 8 :club:

There is another way to play it.

Thanks, Ed. You make some very good points, and yes, I was kicking myself for multiple reasons when I posted this hand. 90% of the time, I would have 3-bet preflop.

I also figured my call+cap on the flop was too transparen–as it proved for at least one of my two opponents.
