Hey Ed,

Here’s an excerpt from your latest Q&A thread: “Another underutilized resource is simulation. If you learn how to interpret the results, you can learn a lot by running equity calculations on some hands that you’ve played. Andrew Prock’s PokerStove is a great tool.”

Do you use these calculations for Limit or also NL? I think it would be extremely instructive if you could provide some examples on just how you go through these equity calculations. I know it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Bobby,

I thought your question was a good one, so I’m answering it in a Q&A post. Look for it soon.

These days, when I peruse hand posts on forums like 2+2, pocket 5’s, ITH, and sometimes flopturnriver and fullcontactpoker, I often find the discussion shallow and confusing. Six people think you should check, six think you should bet, and there’s little analysis to support either position. Then the mob moves on to the next hand. Of course, that characterization isn’t universally fair. Some excellent people are still answering hand posts, but the signal to noise ratio is bad. Most hands don’t get satisfactory discussion

Since this is the case can I ask that you start a section called hand histories, where people can post histories, discuss and you can help guide us in how to evaluate etc. I know that it is already done on other sites like 2+2 but at least here you could help keep the noise down and place a final word on a hand once others have discussed.

At the moment you get a hand history and dissect and tell us the answer so discussion is not neccesary as we all know you know what you are talking about.

Maybe instead you could recieve a hand history - post it for opinions, and then summarise and close the debate with your opinion after a reasonable timeframe.

I also tried 2+2 as a begginer and the only information I got was “move up”, the opposite to what you said, by the way-you said move up when I feel confident. I posted the odd “grunch” and basically was not guided where I went wrong by anyone as far as I could tell.

PeterL,

I think your idea is a good one. I had originally planned for the Questions Threads to be discussion threads, but I like the hand history threads idea. I’ll try to do something like that and see if we can build a group of people who want to discuss hands.
