I’ve always thought my co-author for the tenatively titled Small Stakes No Limit Hold ‘em, Sunny Mehta, was a human interest story waiting to happen. (BTW, SSNLHE is making excellent progress, and it should be out by early 2007. I’ll write plenty more about it in the days and weeks to come here on this blog.) He moved from New Jersey to New Orleans more or less on a whim to become a professional musician. He made it in a city of artists and musicians, and he picked up poker as a hobby.
Then Katrina washed away his music gigs and his regular poker game. Sunny responded by moving to Vegas for a few months and playing poker full-time. Now he’s back in New Orleans living the good poker life, playing music for fun, and preparing to crash the poker world with a blockbuster book.
That is, he was a human interest story waiting to happen. We’re not waiting anymore. Read about Sunny in Joe Longo’s piece on nolafugees.com: Downswing: Online Poker and the New Orleans Economy.
