Answering Two Questions About The New Book

Don't miss one article! Subscribe to the Full Feed RSS or get NPA in your inbox.

I’m really excited because I’ve been getting a lot of emails since my last post went up expressing interest in preordering Small Stakes No-Limit Hold’em. I really appreciate your interest, and I hope the book knocks your socks off.

In particular, people have been asking two questions. I’m in a WSOP event at the moment, so I apologize that I haven’t had time to answer each email personally, but here are the Q’s and A’s.

1. Can I read the e-book on my Mac/Linux Box/Kindle/Sony Reader/Toilet?

Answer is yes to Mac and Linux and I believe yes to Kindle and Sony Reader, though I haven’t tested those devices and it’s possible there might be some glitches (especially if you have an early version of these devices which I’ve heard can be buggy and incompatible). I’m very much hoping to support Kindle and Sony Reader, so if support isn’t quite right on release date I’m going to make it a priority to get those devices supported ASAP. Also, yes to Toilet.

2. What payment methods are available?

Credit cards, Paypal, Google Checkout, Moneybookers, and Full Tilt transfer are what we plan to accept for now. Moneybookers has told me that even though we authors are all US residents that we can sell the book using their service. (Usually Moneybookers permits only EBay transactions for US residents.) We don’t have Neteller due to the US resident thing. We also don’t plan to offer PokerStars transfers. You can send a money order by mail also.

3. Can the e-book be printed out?

Yes. (Ok, I lied. Three questions.)

If you have a specific question or concern, don’t hesitate to contact me. For example, if you preorder the book because you have an Awesome E-Book Reader and you absolutely must be able to read it on the Awesome E-Book Reader or you don’t want it and for whatever reason the book ends up not working correctly on your Awesome E-Book Reader, please email me and I’ll do my best to get things right for you.

Finally, I’ll put up a post on Tuesday once preordering is open (it will open in the afternoon Las Vegas time on Tuesday, not at 12:01am on Tuesday) with as much pertinent information as I can think of.

Regarding Kindle support.

FYI
Anyone who owns a Kindle can convert documents to the Kindle format. You simply email your book to a special email address and it gets converted and either stored on your device for a small fee or sent back as email for free.

That said, Kindle doesn’t do PDF very good. Word (.doc format), HTML or even plain text do very well though.

If you haven’t done so yet, I would suggest you find a close friend who owns a Kindle and try to do the conversion. It’s fairly simple.

What the heck is Toilet?

My google skills are not good enough to avoid links that have to do with real physical toilets. I just didn’t want to go there :)

Ed/Sony Ebook owners: Calibre is an open source software that converts many ebook formats into LRF (Sony’s ebook format). Like the Kindle, although Calibre does convert PDF to LRF, word, html, and text formats seem to convert better.

Loose,

Hrmm… I don’t know about twittering. I might, though. I’ve begun to use facebook more lately, so I guess anything is possible. :)

Vanessa,

Thanks for the great info. I will check it out.

Ed,

Will the formats be compatible with programs like Natural Reader?
