Hi!

I have a question about a hand.

Limit Holdem Ring game
9 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with 2♣ 2♦
3 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, CO (poster) checks, Button folds, SB calls, Hero (poster) checks.

Flop: 2♥ 8♣ Q♦ (4SB, 4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP2 checks, CO checks.

Turn: 10♥ (2BB, 4 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, MP2 calls, CO folds.

River: A♣ (5BB, 3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP2 raises, SB folds, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: 9BB
MP2 shows KS JH
Hero shows 2C 2D

I didn't bet the flop because I hoped for a check-rise and I also noticed that I bet out very often (both when I miss and when I hit). Unfortunately it got checked around.
On the turn I didn't sense any danger so I only called not to drive everyone out. If I had noticed the possible straight I would have of course raised.

I'm thinking if the alternate play would be better, I mean betting the flop and then raising on the turn. Unfortunately it would not definitely protect my hand against the straight, if it got called by everyone on the flop. Probably SB wouldn't bet the turn and even if he did and I raised the odds for MP2 to call would be 3.5-to-1, then clearly he could count on at least one bet on river. If not all called on flop and the SB bet the turn my hand would be safe.

It's a ragged rainbow flop, why on earth would you want to checkraise this flop.  Bet the flop.

The overcall play on the turn isn't terrible but you still should raise here.  There's now a possible flush and a lot of 1 card gutshots likely because of the texture.

On the river, what are you scared of that you don't 3 bet?  Much more likely MP2 has a big A or Aces up, I 3 bet this hand.

In fact I didn't bet cause I was thinking that I bet out a little too muchLaughing
I thought I'd build bigger pot raising MP2 bet. I know - instead of thinking how often I do bet and do not I should have aplied what was quite obvious play.
I didn't raise the turn because I didn't want to drive everyone out.
I must point out here that it was rather tight table, with around 30% players on the flop.
On the turn after MP2 bet I was quite sure I was beat. If he had an Ace, he would have bet the flop for 100%. So the bet here meant something - I was sure.

I rarely slowplayed sets in limit. I bet out here.

On the river I am so reraising I'm not even thinking about it. You have to remember when you slowplay like this , in limit especially, you induce aggressiveness.  The only benefit to your slowplay that hand woudl have been the opponent raising the river against you ( probably 2 pair). And then you backed off.  Why are you so sure he would have bet an ace on the flop? And MP2 called the turn, not bet it. I'm sorry Pawel, I am a little lost here.

Yes I'm sorry I meant when he bet on the river.
But I agree I misplayed this hand completely.

If you've been betting out a lot, it's even more reason to continue betting when you have a great hand.  That's part of the meta game for continuation bets.

Everyone has misplayed a hand or two, or twenty-two or .. well you get the idea.
