I have read a lot about the power of playing from the button and how you can play a pretty loose range of hands from it using your superior position to steal pots and play draws better.

However, while this sounds fine in theory in practice I have had trouble playing losely from position, my steal attempts with nothing seem to fail and only solid hands play well (which is not really the point, because of course I was always playing solid hands with position, my point is how to make money from weak hands using position).

I have dropped stakes to experiment with a loose button strategy and would appreciate any advice anyone about how to make the most of this position (which players should I target and what weaknesses should I look to exploit, what sort of loose hands are playable and against whom?)

in Ed’s NLH articles (find and click to the right) you’ve got the resource you need (search “button”).

dropping in stakes is a good idea as experimentation can cost.

when you open raise with suited connectors in late position, get a couple callers who check
to you on the flop (that doesn’t connect with your hand) and then steal with a small 1/3 pot bet
often enuf you start to see the table is “tipped” towards the button- thats where the chips flow.

try open raising on the button (i use the cutoff more with a tight button) without looking at your cards. if someone loose bets the flop in front of you then raise 3 times their bet and see how often you collect. or call their flop bet and bet/raise the turn. without looking at your cards you see what aggression with position does for you. this is just an experiment of course as you look at your cards the rest of the time.
