This is such a basic question, I'm embarrassed to ask it.

.25/.50 full ring. I have a pretty tight image, although I'd only been on the table for a couple orbits. The villain is running about 45/20 and the reason I opened the table in the first place.

I'm wondering how bad my three-bet on the flop is considering the strength of my hand and the looseness of my opponent.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (8 handed) Full Tilt Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.comFlopTurnRiver.com (Format: Plain Text)

SB ($101.50)
BB ($50)
UTG ($55.35)
Hero ($53.50)
MP1 ($9)
MP2 ($50)
CO ($50.30)
Button (Villain) ($76.90)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Qd, Jd.
1 fold, Hero raises to $1.75, 3 folds, Button (Villain) calls $1.75, 2 folds.

Flop: ($4.25) 2d, Qh, 4d (2 players)
Hero bets $3, Villain raises to $6, Hero raises to $21, Villain folds.

Final Pot: $16.25

Did I really mess this up? In retrospect, I feel like I should have flat called the raise, planning to c/r the turn. Thoughts? Flames? Hit me.

Your hand is such a monster in this circumstance that I would have flat-called the flop and put in a CRAI on any turn.

Yeah, I still like my flop bet. But as soon as I re-raised, I regretted it. I'm almost certainly best on the flop, and there are so few cards in the deck that scare me. He could have a small pair, or just be betting an unimproved ace. I was obviously willing to play for stacks, and completely booted it.

Well, I don't think that you butchered the play or anything.   The way you played is a very reasonable way to play a hand that strong.

If you think that your opponent's range is made up largely of hands presently ahead of you (e.g. AQ, KQ), then you probably played it right.  Your 3-bet succeeded in changing your 46% equity into 100% equity, and that's usually a bigger win than you'll get from implied odds if you hit your draw.   But that plainly isn't your stated read.

If you think that your opponent's range is mostly made up of bluffs, semibluffs, and weaker queens, and if you think your opponent is likely to bet again, then I agree that a turn c/rAI or even check-calling all the way down gives you more value than getting an inferior hand to fold.

If you think you're ahead of the range but the opponent is unlikely to bet again, but would call another bet or two, then flat-calling the flop and betting the turn would be good.
