The game is $5-10 NL.  Relevant stacks are:

UTG:  $160.
MP: $500.
Me:  $600.

I have As Ks.  UTG limps, MP limps, I raise to $60, UTG calls, MP calls.  (everyone else folds)

Pot = $180.  Flop Qs 7c 2c.  UTG open pushes $100, MP folds.  Now what?

UTG had been doing this a lot–buying in short, limp-calling, and then open-pushing.  I figured his range had to be pretty wide.  But is 2.8:1 enough for a call here? I really need to get Poker Stove on my new computer….

Knowing that he was likely to do this, should I have raised slightly more preflop?  Raising to $80 puts $240 in the pot and only leaves him with $80, which gives me 4:1 odds and a clear call unless he has AQ or a set.

If he's playing any pair/any broadway that way, you're only a 55/45 dog.  That's a pretty easy call.  It's not until you get down to a range like any pair/any Q that you aren't getting the money to call at ~3:1.  If he's been doing this a lot, I think you have to grit your teeth and call.

Just a thought…

Would raising a bit more to put pressure on the short stack be better?
