This is the first time I took a look at the Amazon reviews of PNL. Most are favorable, but the negative ones seem to be saying that it’s "too theoretical" and "you can’t spend an hour at the table doing all these calculations".
It seems to me that one thing a college education is good for - especially a technical college like Ed (and Yours Truly
) attended, is that it teaches you the difference between theory and practice. Of course the theory isn’t everything. If it were, you could read a book and immediately go out and be a winning player. It doesn’t work like that. Theory is important because it gives you something to aim for, but you need practical experience to learn what kind of approximations you can make and what shortcuts you can take.
Probably the best advice given in all the reviews is, why bother with reviews. Just go to a bookstore and take a look at it yourself. That’s what I did and I purchased it right there.
