My wife and I will be visiting Las Vegas 02/03/08 thru 02/18/08..We basically play $1/$2, $2/$4, $3/$6 no limit cash games on the internet.

We love holdem and are looking for a couple of casinos on or near the strip which spread these low limits and attract players that we could be competitive with…

Would appreciate any info….           Tom & Donna Maloney

You’re in luck. Virtually all the casinos on the strip that have poker rooms will spread $1-$2 NL, and if you play competitively online, you should have no problem in any of these games.

One difference is that many of the live games have uncapped buyins or buyins that are capped higher than the 100BB online standard. Obviously, you can buy in for whatever you feel comfortable with, but if you play at certain casinos, you may noticed that your opponents are playing a bit deeper than you’re used to. I recommend both the $1-$3 game at the Wynn and the $1-$2 at Caesars for these "deeper" games.

On the other end of the spectrum, the smaller poker rooms on the strip also spread $1-$2 games, but some of them can be extremely shallow, with the biggest stack at the table being $120 and half the players playing $50 or less. Generally the players in these games are fairly new to casino poker, so naturally the level of play isn’t high, but there isn’t a whole lot of money to win either.

For $2-$5 games, I recommend the Wynn or Caesars again. You can also try the Palms for that game.

I haven’t been to Vegas in a bit, though… so it’s possible there have been some changes since I was last there.

You should also check out http://www.allvegaspoker.com/.

They are very up to date on what’s spread where (and max buyins, etc), and have tons of poker room reviews.

When I was there last summer, I enjoyed the 1/3 game at Caesars.  Played a bit at Bally’s too, but Caesars was much more relaxed, and had more L/P gambler types.

And I’ll echo Ed’s sentiments.  If you can beat 1/2 online, you’ll have no trouble with 1/2 or 1/3 in Vegas.  I wasn’t beating NL25 at the time online, but had no trouble with those games.

I’d add that the MGM $1/$2 is pretty good as well.  The poker room itself is well run, and, at least the times I was there, the players seem to be a lot of loose, bad players that migrated over from blackjack tables and love to gamble with strange hands.

On a related note, this is a good read by Pokey over at 2+2: it’s a very good set of tips for adjusting fron online to live play.  I found it VERY useful when I took my first crack at NL live…

Good luck and have fun…

In my times there the games at the MGM and the Venetian are both good.  MGM was capped at 100BB and Venetian is at 150BB.  Both of the $1/2 games there are plenty loose although I felt like the games at the Venetian would tend to get sharky at a table after serveral hours.

I recently returned from Vegas, and Caesar’s was playing main $1/3 on the low end game price.  I would not miss their card room though, it’s among the classiest in town.

For those interesed in tourneys this link has most (but not all) of the action listed, and can be sorted by date, format, etc.
