Hello Ed !

I read your articles about starting hands chart in NL and I found them so interesting.

About Big Blind play against a raise, you say it’s better to play tight because you’re out of position. It seems to be a good advice.

But in "The Mathematics of Poker", they talk about a situation between an early raiser and a big blind. According to them, hand range of BB is quite loose because it is less expensive for him. And in this case the raiser’s range is so strong that it is an autobet in most flops for him if BB checks. So they consider optimal strategy for BB is to always check. Well, that is an interesting idea but they consider there is a great difference between the 2 players starting hand range. But if we consider your requirements, that’s not the case.

2 questions :

- 1/ Who is right ? In BB, should you consider position or odds ?

- 2/ What about auto-check for BB with your starting hand range ?

Thanks Ed.

No, the chapter "play on the flop" where they talk about this is specifically in No-Limit Holdem (if I understood it well).

I don’t know.  I really can’t give much of opinoin personally since I haven’t read the book.  Generally speaking, it seems that most people over defend their blinds in NL.
