Hi all!

I would like your opinion on a bluff I tried but got caught.
Was it my mistake somewhere during play, or just a bad (or great) play
from my oponnent?

We have been playing a while (around 80 hands) and PT showed:

Me. VPIP 25 PFR 23. Villain VPIP 28 PFR 24. Villain has picked up the blinds in the previous hand with an uncalled raise.

FullTiltPoker Game #5863768973: Table Padova (6 max) - villain posts the small blind of $0.50
mickeymousejoon posts the big blind of $1
The button is in seat #4
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to hero [Ad Js]
BeeeBack folds
Bwooook folds
villain has 15 seconds left to act
villain raises to $4
Pete Cooper folds
hero raises to $13
mickeymousejoon folds
villain calls $9
*** FLOP *** [3c 6c Tc]
hero checks
villain checks
*** TURN *** [3c 6c Tc] [2d]
hero bets $18
villain calls $18
*** RIVER *** [3c 6c Tc 2d] [7h]
hero bets $45
villain has requested TIME…

…and then he calls showing 6d 8d and he wins the pot.

I would welcome your comments.

Thanks

I think it’s an OK spot.  He probably doesn’t have a T or he would have bet the flop.  So you are just trying to get him off some middle/bottom pair hand.  I think the play to make would be to c-bet that flop.

Also, I tend to just flat call this particular hand preflop.

I agree with threads.  I don’t think you played this too badly, although after taking control of the hand with the re-raise preflop, that is a great flop to c-bet. I would have used the bullets earlier.  If he calls you can be done with the hand, or choose to keep firing on subsequent streets.  You save the bullet for 4th and 5th street, both of which were sized pretty well, and he made a tough read and call.

The reason I would have bet the flop is because at that point you were representing "something" …perhaps a big overpair, and one suited in clubs. (For example think about how you would have played that hand with KcKs…)  Thats much tougher to call down through 3 streets.  When the 2 and 7 come on the turn and the river, your bluff makes less "sense" from the flop check.  If you are bluffing, it needs to add up to the villian.  Once he starts getting confused…he starts to get curious, and is more likely to call than he likely would earlier in the hand.
