I asked the question a few weeks back about playing in California fixed buy-in NL games where you only start with a max of 40BB, specifically about pre-flop hand selection. Not long after that, I had the opportunity to play the $200 max NL at Hollywood Park (3/5 blinds).

I’m in the BB, and it is literally my first hand, so I have a full $200 stack. The hand before, the guy on my immediate right just donked off a bunch of chips, and I felt he was steaming pretty good.

A guy in MP opens for $15. He gets one caller behind him. The SB, who is steaming, raises to $45. I look down at KK. Fantastic.

I felt calling would be a terrible play, so I decided I had to raise. And since any raise would pretty much commit me, I went ahead and pushed. The original raiser folded, as did the caller. To my surprise, the SB called (he had less than $100 behind).

I turn over my KK. He turns over his KK.

Dang.

It happened to me once in a live game w/AA. Guy directly to my right goes all-in, I recheck my hole cards see AA, and start counting my money in my head. When he turned over AA as well, you had to chuckle.

Curious as to what the probablility of that happening is.
