I was playing $0.10-$0.25 on Full Tilt today while making a video for Stoxpoker, and I came across a common bluffing situation that’s often quite profitable. The situation occurs in a multiway pot when you have position on the preflop raiser. If everyone checks to the raiser, and the raiser checks too, often it’s a situation ripe for a little bluff bet.
Here’s the hand I played today:
Full Tilt, $0.10/$0.25 NL Hold’em Cash Game, 5 Players
Hand History Converter by Stoxpoker
MP: $28.70 (114.8 bb)
Hero (CO): $25.60 (102.4 bb)
BTN: $27.30 (109.2 bb)
SB: $37.20 (148.8 bb)
BB: $38.45 (153.8 bb)
Pre-Flop: Hero is CO with 4

MP raises to $0.85, Hero calls $0.85, BTN folds, SB calls $0.75, BB folds
Flop: ($2.80) 6

(3 players)
SB checks, MP checks, Hero bets $1.50, SB folds, MP folds

“The raiser is tight, which means he’s more likely to pay off if I flop a set.”
Why? Aren’t loose players more likely to pay off big because they call with lesser holdings?
