A few days ago I posted a hand reading quiz for Omaha. If you haven’t tried out the quiz yet, check it out before reading on.

Here are the answers:

1 T  9 :club: 8 :spade: 8 :club: A  Q  T :diamond: 3  A :diamond: 5 :spade: 7  7 :spade:

8 outs - 2 eights, 4 sixes, 2 sevens

The two sevens are outs because they counterfeit the other hand’s ace. Instead of playing A77 from the board, both hands are forced to play 777 and then the 88 in the first hand beats the AQ in the second.

2 A :diamond: A  Q  J :club: 5 :club: 4 :club: 3 :diamond: 2 :diamond: Q :diamond: 8 :diamond: 6 :diamond: 6

4 outs - 2 aces and 2 sixes

The A :diamond: can’t make a flush because the first hand has no other diamond. And a queen doesn’t make a full house because we are required to play two cards from the hand, so a queen would just give us trip queens playing AQ from the hand and QQ8 from the board.

3 T :club: 9  8 :club: 6 :spade: 6 :diamond: 5 :spade: 4  3 :diamond: Q :club: 8 :spade: 7 :diamond: 4 :club:

20 outs - 9 clubs, 3 jacks, 3 tens, 2 nines, 1 six, 2 fives

Small hands like 6543 in Omaha are weak because even when you hit them, when other players get it in with you they often have a ton of outs. Here the bigger wrap has nearly half the deck.

4 7 :diamond: 5 :club: 4 :club: 3 :spade: T :spade: 8  7 :spade: 6  6 :spade: 4  9 :spade: J :diamond:

7 outs - 3 deuces, 3 threes, 1 four

Again, small hands are weak, but this time because our wrap is dominated by a bigger wrap.

5 A  Q :club: J :club: T  A :diamond: J :spade: 9 :diamond: 5  J  9  5 :club: 6 :club:

24 outs to a win, 1 to a chop - 8 clubs, 7 hearts, 2 kings, 2 queens, 2 tens, 2 eights, and the A :spade: chops

That’s a lot of outs. I hope you enjoyed the quiz.
