I’m adding some poker tools to NPA. The first one, a simple equity calculator, is ready to use. It’s presently fairly bare-bones, but I plan to add more features to it in the future.

I have some other tools in mind, but if you have any you’d like to ...

Please add a tool that allows specifying a RANGE of hands. I.e., TT+, AJo+, KQs, 98s+

REM, need the RANGE. :)

Oooh, I like this one, especially with the pictures and big equiy numbers.

I agree with Ken, ranges would be really helpful, especially for a game like PLO, although I am unsure of how that would work, I just know that I want it ;-)

I believe 2 dimes generated a url for the result. That would be a pretty nice feature.

Thanks for the feedback. Ranges is obviously a huge want-to-have. It’s a little bit of a coding job from where I’m at now, but it’s super high-priority for me.

The result URL like 2dimes has is a simple thing to do, and I’ll try to add that soon.

I think a good tool to add would be an SPR calculator.

I actually intend(ed) to write this on my machine at home, but I’ll let you do it… :)

threads13: Interesting idea about the SPR calculator.

Todd: I added the quick URL feature. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Ed,

I’ve got a big question about your Equity Calculator.

My goal: I want to show the winning percentages for the players of my (already working) online poker game in a pre-showdown. The results don’t need to be very accurate. I just want to get that TV feeling into the game.

So what is a simple approach for a quick hold’em equity calculation algorithm?

By sharing your code, I could find the answer by myself.
However, I assume you wouldn’t like that.
But I think you could already help me alot by guiding me in the right direction.

Thanks for reading, Syd.

P.S. (details)

I have already started to work on something, but there must be a simpler and faster method.

My program currently works like this:

1. find all permutations for the rest of the hand

2. for every situation, compare the participating hands

3. calculate the percentages (trivial)

Of course, it can work this way. But probably very slow.

Because right now, I’m not even comparing the actual hand strenghts, merely generating random outcomes. And even this way, a standard situation already takes more than one second on the target system.

Syd,

Check out poker-eval. It’s open source.
